This trip will introduce you to the most important highlights of Cusco and its surroundings. You will get to know the salt mines of Maras which have been in use since Inca times, you will visit the big archeological sites in the Sacred Valley and finish your trip with a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site of Machu Picchu.
Day 1: Cusco City Tour which includes the archeological site of Sacsayhuaman
Day 2: Visit the ruins of Pisaq and the big market of Urubamba in the Sacred Valley
Day 3: Stroll through the salt mines of Maras and the archeological site of Moray
Day 4: Visit the Inka fortress of Ollantaytambo. By train you will head to Aguas Calientes
Day 5: Private guided tour through Machu Picchu and return trip to Cusco.
Today you will get a detailed and private tour of the Inca capital Cusco. Before lunch we will head up to the archeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Tambomachay and Quenko which are located just above Cusco. In the afternoon you will visit the cathedral and the sun temple Qorikancha (Hotel in Cusco)
In the morning you will head towards the Sacred Valley where you will visit the archeological site of Pisaq. Here you have the opportunity to hike down into the town (optional) of Pisaq. On the way to your hotel you can visit the large market in Urubamba where most of the valley´s inhabitants get their daily supplies. (Hotel in the Sacred Valley)
You will visit the circular terraces of Moray. These were constructed by the Incas in order to test the cultivation of different plants. From Moray you will head to the salt mines of Maras. Optionally you can hike to Maras in a 3 hour hike instead of taking the Minivan. The salt mines spread across the hill and are being used as of today. You will be able to buy good table salt directly from Maras (Hotel in the Sacred Valley)
In the morning you will visit the archeological site of Ollantaytambo. Located on a steep hill, these ruins were a very important temple complex for the Incas and mark the way to Machu Picchu. In the afternoon you will take the train in Ollantaytambo to head towards Aguas Calientes. (Hotel in Aguas Calientes)
Very early you will take the bus up to the entrance of Machu Picchu. A private 3 hour tour through the famous archeological site will give you an insight to the sensational masterpiece of the Incas – it will leave you speechless.
